Food Transport: Requirements and Standards

To preserve the quality of food products and raw materials, strict rules apply: maintaining temperature control, humidity, ventilation, and observing «product compatibility» rules.

Food transport is carried out taking these and other requirements into account:

  • fresh products (fruits, vegetables, mushrooms, and semi-finished products made from them) must be delivered quickly and at an optimal temperature from 0 to +4°C to maintain shelf life and appearance;
  • frozen products (meat, fish, seafood) must be kept at temperatures from –25 to –18°C throughout the entire route;
  • products with long shelf life — canned goods, salt, cereals, sugar, pasta — have no special temperature restrictions but require mandatory control of humidity, ventilation, and packaging integrity.

What Documents Are Required to Transport Food Products from Point A to Point B?

Each country has its own requirements. Therefore, during contract preparation, it is necessary to determine what documentation will be needed. Mostly, these include:

  • permits issued by the manufacturer;
  • international health certificate;
  • veterinary certificate.

Food transported across borders must be properly labeled.

The driver must have a valid sanitary book.

Transporting Food Products by Vans, Isothermal Vehicles, Refrigerated Trucks, and Other Means

Regardless of the transport type, the vehicle must be in perfect technical condition and have a sanitary passport.

Before each trip, disinfection and cleaning of the cargo compartment are mandatory.

It is prohibited to use vehicles that previously transported hazardous or strongly odorous substances for food transport.

The vehicle must be equipped with devices for continuous temperature and condition monitoring inside the cargo area.
