How to properly secure cargo in a truck?
During the transport of goods, an important task is to secure them safely on the vehicle's cargo platform. Unsecured or incorrectly secured cargo may be damaged during transport. Sliding cargo on the cargo platform while driving leads not only to damage to the cargo, but also to road accidents. In each case, both the owner of the cargo and the carrier bear the losses.
The general principles of cargo securing in trucks are set out in Article 61. — [Conditions for the carriage of cargo] — Road Traffic Law.
Each transport company in domestic and international transport must also adhere to the rule: always use specialized truck transport for each type of cargo.
Methods of securing cargo in a truck
The basic methods of securing cargo in the cargo space of a vehicle can be divided into the following:
- Stretch films and tapes — most often used for packaging food products on pallets. They protect against dust and moisture, secure the load on the pallet.
- Anti-slip mats — most often used when transporting barrels and wooden products. They prevent the load from sliding on the platform. Often used together with other types of fastening.
- Transport belts with tensioners — universal and most frequently used load securing. They prevent the load from moving and loosening, the fastening force (belt tension) is adjustable.
- Transport containers and boxes — used when transporting delicate equipment, protecting it from the effects of weather conditions, as well as from mechanical damage.
- Space fillers (air cushions, foams) — are used when transporting delicate and fragile loads. Filling empty spaces with foams and cushions helps to stabilize the load and prevents vibrations. Fastening with foams and cushions can be done by one person. Securing cargo in this way saves space by adapting to even the most complex shape of the cargo being secured.
Each securing method can be used in combination with other securing methods.
